How to clean your chopping boards

Updated: Aug 23, 2018

So you've had your chopping boards for a little while and lately they are looking dull and hanging on to the smell of everything you cut on them. You want to bin them, right?

Wrong!! Don't throw them away just yet. Here's a few pointers to help revive and maintain your chopping boards.

1. Did you know that full strength kitchen vinegar is a disinfectant? The acetic acid has disinfectant properties and it actually works great on chopping boards. All you need is to get a clean soft cloth, dip it into the vinegar and wipe down the board. Thereafter, rinse with hot water and let them dry out in the open

2. Another fun fact for you.... Lemon can also be used to get rid of odors on chopping boards. In fact, another way of 'exfoliating' your boards is to make a paste using equal parts water, lemon and salt, then scrub your board with this paste. Rinse the board with hot water and let it air dry.

3. For a deeper clean, make a paste with baking soda, water and salt. Scrub this mix into your board and then rinse with hot water.

And just like that you will have saved your chopping boards.
